When we honeymooned in Barcelona we did the turista thing, saw all the Gaudi architecture etc. The B and B bk had found for us was off the beaten track and when the proprietess saw the camera around bk's neck she told us in no uncertain terms not to take ANYBODY'S picture without asking first. We did ask, and not only were we turned down we quickly understood it was a violation of privacy to even ask. We got a lot of pictures of the architecture, but almost none of street life itself. This piece gives me a little bit deeper understanding of the psychology of it, and not that it was just some kind of cultural quirk.

I have seen many spellings for the festival, but from here will use Matthew's written version. Photos of the 2013 festival in Kabile and Jamra (the neighboring town with a larger focus of the festival), attended by many Peace Corps volunteers, are here: https://flickr.com/search/?sort=date-taken-desc&safe_search=1&tags=songhee&user_id=71584508%40N00&view_all=1
