“A red-tailed hawk is circling

the highway stretches on for days

how could I get so close to you

and still feel so far away…”

--Tom Petty—

Thank you. Regarding your opening missive that drew me into this, I believe the correct term for the ‘unhoused’ would be the same that we used in WWII, that being ‘displaced persons’.

Thank you! I appreciate Tom Petty more the older I get. As far as "displaced persons"...I guess it's as good as anything else we have. Nothing really seems to encompass the full, varied range of experience, cause, and agency among that population. I am silly to think I might see something of it on this trip. I only see the barest surface of anything traveling like this.

a RECENT piece or thing of mine:

ITCH, PILL, OR WHEN YOUR MIND’S LIQUID PAPER STREAMING

My mother Ruth would call me an 'itch' when i'd keep going on

ITCH was not as bad as being designated a 'PILL' a term she didn't use abt her kids--well at least not as PERMaNANT pills, thank you.

But you don't have to feel you should act on my 'compulsions" (i guess that’s what “itch” referred to--when a kid keeps on with a thing and it begins to become annoying: the parent says 'cut that out' until the moonfaced little moron--a sibling's term for the vacant creature-- tilts its surprised face up into the mother's consciousness and surprised perhaps into awareness, stops).

So i'm stopping the itching or working the itch. soon. just let me send these peregrinations that you may not have seen. and you don't have to to use them. just, or not, just squirrel them away. for maybe another day when your mind's like liquid paper setting into a new project of a topic.

.

It's THE GIFT the gift that lewis hyde wrote about that wants to stream.
